COMEX: The Commodity Exchange, the division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) that operates the principal copper futures and options trading market in the United States.

Copper adjustment:  The adjustment we make to our quarterly and annual revenues to reflect a standard copper cost.  We believe that these adjustments permit investors to make better year-over-year comparisons.  For 2006, we used a standard copper cost of $2.00 per pound COMEX.

Copper rod:  The key raw material we use to make magnet wire.  We produce much of our own copper rod at our two continuous-cast copper rod facilities.  We consider any excess copper rod to be a by-product, and we sell it on the open market.  Revenues in this segment reflect these sales, which generally allow us to recover most of our fixed costs.

Core business:  Our three key business segments:  Communications Cable, North American Magnet Wire and Distribution, and European Magnet Wire and Distribution.  Copper rod is not considered one of our core businesses (please see copper rod definition for more information).

Enamel:  A smooth coating applied to magnet wire for insulation.

Magnet wire:  An insulated copper (or aluminum) electrical conductor used in motors, transformers and other electromagnetic equipment.  Outside of North America, magnet wire is often called winding wire.

OEMs:  Original equipment manufacturers.  OEMs that do business with Superior Essex include manufacturers of motors, generators and transformers.

OSP:  Outside plant cable, which is copper cable and/or fiber cable used in voice and data transmission, local telephone exchanges and CATV.  In North America, Superior Essex is the largest manufacturer of OSP copper communication cable and the largest supplier of cable products to major telephone companies. 

Premises cable:  Copper and fiber cable specifically designed for indoor use.  Premises cable is found in homes, offices, central office switching exchanges and local area networks (LANs).

Winding wire:  Magnet wire.  Outside of North America, magnet wire is often called winding wire.
